This is just what the farmer’s wife of American Gothic by Grant Wood says to her husband, in one of the animated paintings by Doug Bayne, Ben Baker and Trudy Cooper, for the Australian sketch show, Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting. It seems that the group really wasn’t trying to make fun of fine art since, according to Doug, they “just have trouble expressing ourselves, so we end up pulling Art’s hair because we can’t figure out something nice to say to it.”

For Doug, the project was more about championing the public domain. “Seventy years after an artist dies, his or her paintings become the property of everyone, which I love. It’s like your body returning to the earth to feed the plants, except it’s your ideas getting redistributed.”
