Buni: Happiness Is a State of Mind
An idea for a visually cute — yet twisted and sad — comic had been rolling around in Ryan Pagelow’s mind for a few years. What emerged was a snaggletoothed cartoon bunny which he started publishing online in 2010. Buni — pronounced like “bunny” — is a naive optimist with terrible luck, and is constantly being crushed by the real world. The girl he loves, loves someone else. And his best intentions never seem to work. Yet he wakes up each day, hoping for the best. Buni is not always the protagonist of this happy “state of mind”. Stories of animated objects such as pizzas, peanuts, or cupcakes flow in parallel to his strip.
Ryan Pagelow has been drawing comic strips for most of his life. His work has appeared in several newspapers, online sites and Mad magazine. Buni was one of the 10 finalists in the Comic Strip Superstar contest hosted by Universal Press Syndicate and Amazon.com. When not drawing, Ryan is a photographer and lives with his wife, son and daughter in Chicago.
